BJJ Legend & Unity Gym Coach Murilo Santana Banned From ADCC Due To Allegedly Pulling Knife
ADCC is undoubtedly the biggest name on the map when it comes to BJJ competitions and is often compared to the grappling version of the Olympics. However, things took a turn for the worst last week when the head coach of Unity, Murilo Santana allegedly pulled a knife on a competitor during a fight. This happened when he was cornering a student of his whose opponent started throwing punches. As punches are illegal in BJJ, this wasn’t well received by Murilo who instantly ran over.
The altercation was filmed on camera and Murilo was certainly quick to get involved. The video footage also captured Murilo lifting up his shirt and revealing an item that forced others to back off. This has led many to believe that he pulled a knife. Having said this, it isn’t confirmed whether Murilo actually did have a knife on him. Further still, the venue did have metal detectors on the doors so this claim may have been hearsay.
An avid competitor himself, Santana had previously featured on the ADCC mats as a competitor years back. However, this behavior was certainly not appropriate – especially as a coach. In fact, it even prompted ADCC head organizer Mo Jassim to announce that he had banned Murilo for life from attending his events.
