Lethwei Champion Dave Leduc blasts Thai media over ban from competition
Over the past few months, Canadian Lethwei Champion Dave Leduc has spoken about a potential fight between himself and Muay Thai Champion Buakaw Banchamek. This has the potential to be one of the biggest Muay Thai fights ever, as Leduc proposed fighting under Muay Thai rules, even though his art of Lethwei also involves headbutts which are illegal in Muay Thai.
This proposal drew controversy and he was banned for competing for two years under the Lethwei Federation of Myanmar. Some argue that this ban was political due to Leduc supporting the freedom movement in the country.
As a result, Leduc was back at it again today on social media and wrote, “Thanks for the love, I run Thailand. Thai media loves me.” He didn’t stop there, and even called the Muay Thai founder Nai Khanom Tom a “bitch, after getting captured by the Burmese.”
Leduc then went on to attack Muay Thai and added, “You’re not a complete striker if you can’t defend against headbutts or deliver them properly.” After this, he finally ended by mocking Buakaw Banchamek for avoiding child support payments and even offered to adopt his child due to himself being “A strong father figure.”
These strong words, alongside more were posted on his Instagram account this week as he continues to push for a cross-promotion fight. This level of trash talk is still relatively new to Muay Thai and is usually reserved for the likes of Conor McGregor. Nonetheless, regardless of your views it would surely be a fight of the ages and Leduc can certainly back up his talking in the ring.
