Deadpool uses Kenjutsu
Perhaps the most obvious martial art that Deadpool uses is Kenjutsu. As seen, Deadpool rarely goes anywhere without his trusty katana swords. Kenjutsu is the art of swordfighting and uses katana’s during practice. It should be mentioned that typically Kenjutsu emphasizes the use of only one sword per person. Nonetheless, Deadpool has never followed convention and dual wields both swords at the same time. Combined with his speed and agility, he can often close the distance quickly, get close, and stab his enemies.
Deadpool uses Ninjutsu
Ninjutsu is an umbrella term that encompasses different warfare techniques used by ninjas in feudal Japan. Examples of Ninjutsu including spying, sneaking past guards, setting traps, hiding, and throwing blades. Whilst on a mission, Deadpool does all of these Ninjutsu techniques plus more. The result is that he’s very good at using espionage and can bring down large numbers of enemies by seemingly using little effort. As Deadpool is a mercenary, it makes total sense that he fights like a ninja who use similar methods of combat.
Deadpool uses Military tactical training
These days, all global military organizations with employ tactical training. What is meant by this? This means being able to fight with guns and explosives during warfare. Of course, military training is not just about firing guns either. Like Ninjutsu, it also relies on tactics and strategy. For example, in Russian Systema, there is a big emphasis on using guns, as well as disarming them. Another weapon that Deadpool carries with him is his Desert Eagle pistols or his machine gun.
Often when fighting from range, Deadpool will not use his swords which is common sense. Instead, he will use guns as well as grenades. To do this, you need to have been well trained by someone with military experience. This makes sense as Deadpool is a mercenary.
Deadpool uses Karate
If Deadpool is out of weapons and finds himself unarmed, he will often resort to Karate. Again, it seems that Deadpool is an expert in this field and knows how to throw kicks and punches. Due to his athletic nature, he can blend his speed well with Karate to provide great success. This means he can both dodge strikes, as well as counter them with relative ease.
Little is known about his training in Karate, but there have been times when Deadpool visits Japan (to kill Yakuza) so it’s very possible that whilst he was over there, Deadpool took part in formal Karate training. Again, this adds up and explains why he’s so good at Karate and other martial arts.
Deadpool uses Wing Chun
Wing Chun is often used by countless superheroes, and although Deadpool is unusual, he’s not unique in this regard. Deadpool’s Wing Chun skills can be seen during the ‘maximum effort’ scene in the movies where he takes on a bunch of goons in a car chase. When he initially enters the car, he is outnumbered 4 to 1 and is literally sitting next to his enemies. They try to punch him from close range and he uses his Wing Chun reflexes to deflect punches, and counter with strikes of his own.
In terms of Wing Chun, it’s fair to say that he’s an expert at trapping and literally doesn’t get hit during this scene. Combined with his other fighting skills and immortality – it’s no wonder that Deadpool can’t take combat seriously as he’s just too skilled to care or feel threatened.
Deadpool uses Sumo
This is a bit of an odd addition to the list. Deadpool uses Sumo, yes – that’s right. In one comic book episode, he takes part in a Sumo tournament in Japan. Whilst this may not provide much provide as much practical help in fighting as his other skills, it still shows that Deadpool is a well rounded martial artist.
Put another way, you could argue that Sumo is a form of grappling which is also good for fighting from close range. Deadpool may not use his Sumo skills too often, but it’s just another example of his many talents.
Conclusion
Overall, there’s no doubt that Deadpool is a highly skilled martial artist. In fact, the case could be made that out of all the superheroes, his martial arts are the best. The reason for this may be due to his immortality which means that he can literally train forever. Even if he fails during a fight, he can still win eventually. Because of this, he could have trained for years more than anyone else and can literally spend years becoming a master in any martial art that he chooses.
The outcome of this is that Deadpool knows all sorts of stuff and is very effective when it comes to fighting. Whilst he may not have the mental state or discipline of most real martial artists, in terms of techniques his knowledge and application is second to none.
