What martial arts does Vin Jin know in Lookism?

In the webtoon series “Lookism,” the character Vin Jin is known for using martial arts. As seen by his physique, you can tell that he’s a martial artist and is in good shape. Here, he predominantly trains something called ‘Kudo’ – which is a mixture of Karate and Judo. Later on in the series, he delves deeper into grappling and his fighting style develops and changes over time. Here is what Vin Jin trains:

Vin Jin trains Judo

Vin Jin seeks out a Judo dojo, where he meets a skilled instructor who introduces him to the art of throws, joint locks, and ground grappling. Vin Jin’s natural athleticism and agility allow him to quickly grasp the principles of Judo. He learns to use his opponent’s strength against them, capitalizing on leverage and timing to execute powerful throws and takedowns such as the uchi mata.

As Vin Jin’s Judo skills develop, he incorporates them seamlessly into his fighting style. During confrontations, he surprises his opponents with swift throws and sweeping techniques, taking advantage of their balance and momentum. Vin Jin’s ability to immobilize and control his opponents on the ground becomes a valuable asset, giving him an edge in close-quarters combat.

Vin Jin trains Wrestling

Inspired by his growing interest in grappling, Vin Jin also decides to explore the realm of Korean wrestling, known as ssireum. He discovers a traditional ssireum training center where he encounters experienced wrestlers who teach him the art of balance, strength, and grappling techniques specific to Korean wrestling. Overall, this isn’t too surprising considering that Lookism is set in Korea, where ssireum is commonly trained.

Incorporating ssireum into his training regimen, Vin Jin further refines his grappling skills. He learns how to engage his opponents in intense clinches, utilizing techniques such as trips, sweeps, and throws derived from Korean wrestling. Vin Jin’s understanding of body mechanics and weight distribution allows him to manipulate his opponents’ movements effectively.

Vin Jin trains Karate

As mentioned with ‘Kudo’, this is a mix of Karate and Judo. Therefore, Vin Jin also knows how to use kicks, punches and blocks. Whilst grappling is a great skill to have, sometimes you need to throw in strikes as well if you can’t take the opponent to the ground. This is where his Karate training comes in handy. As seen below, Vin Jin uses a hybrid Karate-Kung Fu stance.

We can also see his Karate in the form of his physical body too. It’s no secret that Karate is great for strength and conditioning, and it’s fair to say that he is both very strong and conditioned.

Summary

Vin Jin’s combination of Karate, Judo, and Korean wrestling creates a versatile and well-rounded fighting style. He seamlessly transitions from high-speed kicks to fluid grappling maneuvers, surprising his adversaries with his adaptability. Vin Jin’s ability to mix striking techniques with throws and joint locks gives him a distinct advantage in combat situations.

Throughout the series, Vin Jin’s mastery of grappling arts becomes evident as he employs his newfound skills to overcome challenging opponents. His ability to seamlessly blend Karate kicks with Judo throws and Korean wrestling techniques sets him apart as a formidable fighter.

With each new encounter, Vin Jin’s expanding arsenal of martial arts techniques continues to evolve, ensuring that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the world of “Lookism.”
