Brendan Schaub’s ‘Truck Walk’ saga explained

Ex-UFC and MMA fighter Brendan Schaub has not had an easy year. From having a universally panned comedy special to Dana White calling him an idiot and generally having half the internet turn on him – it’s fair to say that things have been tough.

However, perhaps the biggest scandal the ex-fighter has been involved in was the infamous ‘Truck walk’ tale that made his public relations plummet. So, what happened and why did it blow up? On a podcast midway through the year, Annie Lederman claimed that a married, unfunny comedian asked her to walk him to his truck with the hint of sexual intercourse. Similarly, Khalyla Kuhn also claimed that the same (unidentified) man had contacted her in her Instagram DM’s.

What made the situation blow up is when Brendan Schaub himself commented on it in a later conversation. In true Brendan Schaub style, he referred to it as a “Trug walg” and the rest is history. For those unaware, this is a classic case of Schaubanese – a term used to describe his unusual dialogue. Some have claimed that he speaks this way to being dim, whereas others attribute it to CTE from his mixed martial arts days. Regardless, the term Trug Walg went viral. As you can imagine, various memes and even songs followed.

After this, rumors circulated that Schaub even went as far as to threaten to sue Lederman. However, since then things have died down and for now at least, the Trug Walg situation has died down. Having said this, knowing the internet, you’re never too far from another Brendan Schaub scandal.
