Japan Judo team wins the 2022 mixed team trophy

This year saw the Judo team championships held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan in October. Unsurprisingly, the Japanese team won the gold medal. In the final match to clinch the title, Saki Niizoe choked Marie-Eve Gahie to give her country the deserved gold with a 4-2 victory.

It would also mean that it kept Japan’s win streak alive in the competition which dates back to 2017. Of course, the pandemic halted things for a couple of years but still, this goes to show just how dominant the Japanese male and female Judoka’s have been over the past few years.

Overall, this meant that Japan got gold, France got silver, and bronze was shared by Germany and Israel. This could be considered a successful showing for the Germans, as this was the first time they ever won a mixed team medal in Judo.

In other news, the location of the 2023 Judo championships was also revealed at the event. This was given to Qatar during a handover ceremony. Culturally, this also signaled the arrival of Qatar in the sporting world, who will also host the soccer World Cup in the winter of 2022.
