The Top 10 Strangest & Most SHOCKING Fighter Confessions In MMA

As we are all well aware, there are some strong, original, and downright crazy characters in MMA. When fighters get interviewed, become emotional after a fight, or simply just don’t care anymore, they reveal a shocking truth that dominates the MMA media for at least a week or two.

Often, these confessions are truly shocking and come right out of the blue with no prior conversation or prompting needed. These add to the craziness of some characters since you may have expected an interview about an upcoming fight and instead you get a conversation about the merits of brushing your teeth 4 times per day.

Many of these confessions have not changed the fight scene or MMA, or even our opinions of a specific fighter. Most of the time we knew that the said fighter was a little off the wall in the first place, so a strange event or story about their personal life only adds to this and makes them more of a fan favorite.

The Most Shocking MMA Fighter Admissions

Colby Covington – Persona Is Not Real

Colby Covington was considered just another boring wrestler at the beginning of his career. It’s no secret that Dana White is not a fan of this style at all, but Covington still maintained an excellent record.

There are various accounts of where Covington’s career was going, and he has suggested that he was going to get cut, which looks somewhat untrue as his record was 13-1 at the time. It was at this point Covington started to wear MAGA hats and generally be disrespectful to anyone and everyone that he possibly could.

He has admitted that he almost enjoys playing this character, but it is certainly not his true personality.

Mark Coleman – Fake Fight

There are many rumors of fixed fights happening in Japan, specifically during the PRIDE era under heavy involvement from the Japanese Yakuza. Coleman was allegedly offered money to lose to a Japanese fighter in order to generate more interest from the national audience. In fairness to Coleman, even though he had been cut by the UFC after losing 3 fights in a row, he was previously 6-0 and had beaten legends such as Don Frye and Dan Severn.

Although Coleman never confessed, 10 years after PRIDE had gone bankrupt, he stated “It was what it was, I needed to support my family at that time”. This does not leave much to the imagination, as it was not easy to make money in MMA during the late ’90s with a 6-3 record.

Conor McGregor – Baby On The Way

Before a press conference for the upcoming fight against Eddie Alvarez, Conor McGregor was at the height of his career, being the lightweight champion, having a gigantic payday for boxing Floyd Mayweather coming up, and generally not having done any of the stupid things that led to the downward spiral of his life just yet.

It was at this conference that everyone was expecting these questions to be asked until McGregor announced that he was having a baby with his long time partner Dee Devlin. This was not a particularly shocking confession but completely changed the press conference as now nobody was really interested in anything else.

Darren Till – Anxiety / Considering Faking Injury

After being submitted and knocked out cold in his last two fights, Till was not in a particularly good headspace going into his UFC fight night main event.

In an interview after the fight (which Till won), he confessed “To tell you the truth, I didn’t want to go out there tonight. I was thinking of ways to fake an injury”. This was an honest admission from Till who did not have to reveal any of this information and despite feeling like this, still came out and fought anyway.

Jon Jones – Getting Drunk In Fight Camp

On the Joe Rogan podcast Jon Jones admitted that he often got blackout drunk in the training camp a few weeks before each of his fights. He said he did this as a coping mechanism in order to be able to have an excuse should he lose.

This is pretty crazy since Jon Jones is one of the most dominant MMA fighters that the world has ever seen and once said “I beat you after a weekend of cocaine” to Daniel Cormier after beating him in a title fight. If anything, this just proves the level Jones was operating at, being able to beat a fantastic fighter after abusing drugs.

Fight camps, weight cutting and actually training with everything you have to beat your opponent is hard enough with every fight having 1 winner and 1 loser. Jones has somehow been able to beat everyone put in front of him and doing it whilst using alcohol and hard drugs.

Ali Abdelaziz – Attempted Poisoning

Former fighter turned superagent. Ali Abdelaziz is certainly a crazy character full of stories such as seeing a UFO with Georges St Pierre.

When featuring as a guest on the Ariel Helwani MMA show, Abdelaziz was asked about his fighter Karamu Usman, to which he responded “I was poisoned, somebody tried to kill me”. Helwani was obviously shocked by this bizarre revelation and questioned Abdelaziz further but he didn’t want to give much more information away. He did mention that people are always trying to kill him but didn’t give any specific details.

Mirko Crocop – USADA Admission

Despite passing a drugs test administered by USADA, it was the honesty of Crocop that led to a 2 year suspension. In 2016, Crocop told USADA that he had an injured shoulder and had taken a supplement that contained HGH, or HGH stimulators.

As a consequence of this admission, USADA still dished out a lengthy ban. Of course, everyone was left to wonder, why did Crocop admit to taking this banned substance? and secondly, why did USADA still give him a full length ban, even when he was up front and honest. This will obviously lead to all future athletes hiding everything they can as being honest is simply not worth it.

Nick Diaz – Unpaid Taxes

After losing to Georges St Pierre in 2013, Nick Diaz seemed to become pretty unhinged in the press conference afterward. For some reason, he decided it would be a good idea to say the following “you know what, I’ve never paid taxes in my life and I’m probably going to go to jail”.

In terms of confessions, this has to be one of the worst things you can say, especially if there is a global media scrum filming and recording everything you say.

Thankfully, these comments didn’t come back to haunt Diaz and he has not ended up in jail. Due to data protection laws and individual freedom, nobody knows how much tax Diaz has truly paid, whether he was confused or whether he got away with not paying.

Georges St Pierre – Vanishing Time

On episode #351 of the Joe Rogan Experience, Georges St Pierre made a strange confession that possibly involved aliens or some kind of glitch in time. The JRE is known for its wild and wacky conversations, but even this was a little out of the ordinary for most popular podcast on the planet.

St Pierre claimed that ever since he was a young boy, he would look at the clock and then look again a few moments later. Even though the time between these moments was minutes at the most, St Pierre said that several hours had passed. He also mentioned that this was likely aliens, but he could also be crazy.

It has been noted that St Pierre has possible CTE and without a doubt has taken many strikes to his head during his career. This could be a possible explanation for the missing time which is more likely than what he said.

Michael Bisping – Fake Eye

Almost everyone knew that Michael Bisping had severely limited vision in his right eye. This injury came from fighting a suspiciously muscular Vitor Belfort in 2013 in which he suffered a detached retina which was never quite the same.

On his Believe You Me podcast, the charismatic Bisping decided to reveal to the world that he had a glass eye, and not a regular one like everyone had previously thought. Granted, this was after he had retired from professional MMA, but it was still incredibly shocking to see him admit to this and then take out his eye live on air.

After this event, Bisping hinted that he had actually fooled UFC doctors and was actively fighting with a glass eye. These comments have been laughed off by Dana White who assured everyone that a doctor clearly knows the difference between a fake eye and a real one. However, it’s likely we will never find out the complete truth behind this incident.
