Within the Brazilian Jiu jitsu community, Eddie Bravo’s name is the stuff of legend. Founder of the 10th Planet BJJ network (gyms that exclusively train without the gi), Bravo was also responsible for inventing techniques and having a unique approach to grappling. Even outside of BJJ, his presence is still felt in MMA with techniques such as rubber guard and the lockdown still being frequently used.

Not only is Eddie Bravo a great innovator on the mats, but he’s also a real character off them. Best known for his conspiracy theories, music, and love of marijuana – it’s fair to say that Eddie Bravo is a one-of-a-kind. In this article, we have shown rarer photos of Eddie Bravo which people may not be aware of.

Although Eddie Bravo built his empire in grappling, his original career was in music. Even these days, Eddie Bravo often performs with his band Smoke Serpent.

As seen above, Eddie Bravo is teaching a Twister submission in an MMA class. This is a spinal neck crank that has been performed in the UFC. If the opponent doesn’t tap then their back can literally break. Bravo was credited for bringing the Twister into mainstream grappling.

At one point in his life, Eddie Bravo was a prominent podcaster. Here, he spoke about conspiracy theories which is one of his main interests.

Eddie Bravo seen above with Tony Ferguson after giving him his black belt. This was given to Ferguson after he won the interim UFC belt, making him the UFC champion at the time. Ferguson has been known to perform Eddie Bravo’s moves in MMA, such as triangle chokes from the rubber guard.

At one point, Eddie Bravo also had a feature spot in the MMA in its earlier days. Here, Bravo would give his own analysis on the grappling side of fights and would educate fans on submissions.
