Superfan buys Valentina Shevchenko’s used UFC shorts for $4,999

Last week saw Valentina Shevchenko defend her Flyweight belt against Taila Santos at UFC 275. Although the fight was fairly uneventful and Shevchenko slogged out a decision win, there has been a bigger piece of news that has appeared from the bout.

A sharp-eyed Twitter user noticed that someone had purchased Shevchenko’s fight-worn shorts for $4,999 – a dollar shy of paying $5000. Although the buyer remains anonymous – the internet has responded by questioning whether the purchase was justified or not.

One of the funnier Twitter responses was, “The judge that scored it 49-46 bought them.” Someone also bizarrely commented, “How much for her walkout t-shirt. the one she wipes her armpits with before entering the cage.”

When thinking about it another way, this fee is probably more than a typical fighter would make at a low-level, pro MMA event. So, one day we may see these in a museum – or we may just never see them again. Regardless, whoever got paid such a large amount will certainly be pleased with the money they made.
