Thai boxer Panphet Phadungchai dies after Muay Thai fight knockout

In shocking news, Muay Thai fighter Panphet Phadungchai sadly died after being knocked unconscious by an elbow in a fight last week. Panphet Phadungchai was announced dead in hospital after losing his fight against Frenchman Anthony Durand. Although he didn’t die instantly, it took one week for Phadungchai to pass.

The killer blow took place in the 5th round and sadly, Phadungchai didn’t recover. After his death, his opponent Durand announced his retirement from Muay Thai and claimed he would help out the family of Phadungchai. In a cruel twist of fate, Phadungchai recently had a child with his wife.

This has led to calls from Muay Thai fans to have medics at the side of the ring. Unfortunately, many Muay Thai events don’t have medics – especially smaller, more local events. On a side note, it may be difficult to implement this change as casual Muay Thai fights are such a common part of the culture in Thailand. It also serves as a brutal reminder that although Muay Thai may be entertaining for many, it’s also incredibly dangerous as well.
